Homeless Youth Services

Berrien RESA works to ensure students experiencing homelessness and temporary living situations have the opportunity to receive a stable, continuous education, regardless of their housing situation.

The McKinney-Vento Act

The McKinney-Vento Act defines homeless children and youth as individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence.

We primarily serve:

  • children and youth ages 0-21 or until high school graduation, who are experiencing homelessness or are sharing the home of another person due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason

  • pregnant and parenting teens

  • siblings ages 0-5, and teens 18+ who do not yet have a high school diploma or GED

How to Access Services

Students can access our services through their school, a shelter or community agency.

Families can also call Berrien RESA at 269-471-7725 Monday - Friday, 8 AM – 4 PM.
